OBITUARY

Harry Bernard Risvold was born at Linn Grove, Iowa, on Jan. 10, 1932, the son of C. Bernard and E. Lucille (Cortright) Risvold. Their family then moved to Sioux Rapids, Iowa, before they moved to the Traer community. Harry attended Traer High School and graduated in the Class of 1949. He continued his education at Monmouth College in Illinois. Harry was an accomplished drummer and played in various local bands and traveled with Del Clayton Band for three years. Harry took an interest in watchmaking and attended the Elgin Watchmaker College in Elgin, Illinois.

Harry's training was interrupted when he served his country during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to complete his courses.

On Sept. 15, 1955, Harry married Carol Mathias at Pine City, Minnesota. Harry and Carol made their home at Marquette, Michigan, where Harry worked at Jean's Jewelry Store for three years.

In 1958 they returned to Traer where they owned and operated Risvold's Jewelry Store for over 26 years. Over the years Harry continued his interest in music and played in area bands as well as a Jazz Trio. Harry was an avid sports fan, enjoyed children and boating. Many residents will remember his love of motorcycles, scooters and cars.

In recent years his health had failed and he found enjoyment spending some time at the casino. More resently Harry was a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center at Traer, where his death came on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the age of 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife Carol of Traer, his son Larry and wife Sheri of Elgin, SC, his daughter Laura and husband Tony Abbott of Savannah, GA and a sister Janet Wisdom and husband Robert of Weeki Wachee, FL, and six grandchildren.
