OBITUARY

Reginald Craig Reuman was born at Waterloo, Iowa, on April 27, 1943, son of John and Myrna (Justice) Reuman. Reg received his education at Traer, graduating from high school in the Class of 1961. He continued his education at Upper Iowa University. Reg later returned to Traer, joining his father in the local clothing store and also was a member of the US Army Reserve Corp.

On May 28, 1968, Reg married Mary Hansen at the Ripley United Church of Christ and Reg and Mary made their home all their married life in Traer.

Reg was an active member of the Traer community and was active in many civic activities which included the Ripley United Church of Christ, the Traer Chamber of Commerce, the Traer Fire Department, Traer's representative on the Tama County Landfill Commission and the American Legion.

There were few free moments in Reg's life that did not include promoting a better Traer community.

On Monday, March 20, 1989, Reg suddenly became ill and was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo where he died at the age of forty-five years, ten months and twenty-one days. Reg is survived by his wife Mary; three daughters, Renee, Julie and Denise; his parents, John and Myrna Reuman; one brother, Mike and his grandmother, Stella Justice, all of Traer.

YOUNG OUTLOOKS
by Ellen Young

It's not very often that this community has to suffer a blow such as that experienced this week, with the unexpected death of Reg Reuman who died Monday at the age of 45.

Reg's death affected many people in this town, where he had lived all of his life, because his living affected so many people. He lived not just for his family, but for his community and we all are better for the efforts made by him to make this community a good place to live. Reg was not a taker, but a giver.

The Traer Chamber of Commerce organization will certainly miss the contributions made by Reg in his untiring efforts on behalf of the Traer Theatre. All of the volunteers in the area who have kept the theater staffed each weekend were there because Reg did all the scheduling of those volunteers.

The Volunteer Traer Fire Department members will certainly miss Reg and his services to that organization and to the community which it serves. He was proud to be serving as captain of that organization.

Our condolences go out to Reg's wife, Mary, and their three daughters, and to his parents, John and Myrna Reuman, and his brother, Mike and his family. John and Myrna Reuman brought up two boys in this town, and taught them to be concerned about their fellow man, and the future of their community. Both are good examples of how much can be accomplished for good, by those who work together for a common good.

We shall all miss Reg and his laughter and his smile. His devotion to our community and its betterment are appreciated. He will be missed.
