OBITUARY

Robert John Ralls was born at Watertown, South Dakota on Feb. 28, 1913, the son of John G. Ralls and Judith Hunt. At a young age Bob moved with his family to Eldora, Iowa where he graduated from high school in the Class of 1931.

On Sept. 11, 1938 Bob married Caroline Teske at the St. Paul Lutheran Parsonage in Eldora. Bob and Caroline made their home in Hampton, Iowa where Bob managed a variety store.

In 1944 Bob entered the US Army and served his country in the European Theater during WW II. Following his discharge in 1946, they moved to Traer where Bob purchased the Yordy's Variety Store and it became Ralls Dime Store in 1947.

In addition to being a long time businessman, Bob served his community as a trustee on the Traer Municipal Utilities, served many years on the Traer School Board and Traer Memorial Building Board, as well as a member of the American Legion.

Following his retirement Bob and Caroline continued to make their home in Traer. Recently Bob's health had failed and he was a patient at Sunrise Hill Care Center at Traer for a short time before his death came at Covenant Medical Center on Thursday, June 20, 2002 at the age of 89 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Caroline, a son Dr. James Ralls and his wife Marilyn of Oelwein, one daughter and her husband Mrs. JoAnn (Glenn) Kumpula of O'Fallon, MO as well as six grandchildren; Amanda, Sandra, & Jeffrey Ralls and Lincoln, Rachel, & Hannah Kumpula

Immediately following the committal service, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Traer Memorial Building
