OBITUARY

Robert Joseph Podhajsky was born July 3, 1931 at Toledo, Iowa, the son of William and Mayme (Valenta) Podhajsky, Sr. Bob received his education in country school before attending high school in Traer, graduating in the Class of 1949. He then farmed with his father until he entered the US Navy serving during the Korean War.

Following his discharge he attended Iowa State University in Ames before returning to farming.

On February 20, 1971, Bob was united in marriage to Cecilia Svoboda at St. Vaclav Catholic Church in Clutier. They made their home in Traer and Bob continued to farm.

Bob was an active member of the community serving on the Board of Directors of Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, the Garwin Lumber Co. and the Traer Memorial Building Board. He was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, past Commander of the Traer American Legion and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the K.D. Lodge.

Bob recently became ill and was a patient at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home where his death came on Monday, November 19, 2001 at the age of 70 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Maria, a child by miscarriage, and a brother Bill. Bob is survived by his wife Cecilia of Traer, 5 sons: Father Christopher Podhajsky of Mason City, IA, Nicholas and his wife Joey of Traer, Jefffrey of State Center, IA, Michael of Washington, DC, and Richard of Traer, a daughter Theresa of Sageville, IA and a brother Stanley of Iowa City, IA.

Following committal services at the cemetery, family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon in the Traer Memorial Building.
