OBITUARY

Funeral services for Lester "Mike" Overturf, 94, a long-time resident of the Elberon area and more recently of Traer and Reinbeck, were held Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1996, at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Burial was at Waltham Cemetery, Elberon, Iowa.

Mr. Overturf died Sunday, Dec. 29, 1996, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

The Rev. Robert Snyder, pastor of the Clutier Community Church in Clutier, officiated the service with Judy Mason, organist and Mark Keefer, vocalist.

Casket bearers were Jeff Johnston, Dale Bidwell, Kenneth Johnson, Mike Overturf, Alan Peters and Mark Rollins. Floral tributes were handled by Mr. and Mrs. Darold Morris and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Parizek.

Lester "Mike" Overturf was born ?Dec. 23, 1902 at Elberon, Iowa, the son of Grant and Bessie (Stoddard) Overturf. He lived all of his early years in the Elberon community.

He was united in marriage to Nettie Mason in February 1928. Mike and Nettie spent many years farming their century farm in the Elberon and Clutier area.

After retireing from farming, Mike spent 12 years trucking for Murray Whannel.

In 1990 Mike and Nettie moved to an apartment at Sunrise Hill Terrace in Traer and later moved to their daughter's farm home at rural Reinbeck.

Mike enjoyed riding horses, trucking, playing cards and fishing.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Hope, Richard, Clinton and Curtis; two sisters, Clara and an infant sister and his son-in-law, Wilford Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie; one son, Robert and his wife, Linda of Malcom; one daughter, Betty Johnston of Reinbeck; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Heaton of Perry and Mabelle Muller of Ladeside, Fla., as well as nieces and nephews.
