OBITUARY

Elnora F. Mason, 78, of Traer and formerly of Garwin, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001 at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer, after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Garwin Christian Church. Officiating was Pastor Cynthia Morrison. Burial was in Garwin Cemetery.

Elnora Fern Mason was born March 19, 1922 on a farm east of Lincoln, IA, the daughter of Noble and Rose (Goette) Kahler. In the 1930s her family moved from farm to farm and Elnora attended several country schools, including Traer, Geneseo, Toledo and in 1940 she graduated from Garwin High School.

On Dec. 8, 1941, Elnora was united in marriage to Dennis C. Mason in Lancaster, MO. They made their home in Garwin where they owned and operated a grocery store for many years.

They traveled often and saw every state in America with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii. In 1997 Elnora moved to Sunrise Hill Care Center.

In free moments, Elnora enjoyed making rag rugs for the Reinbeck and Grundy Center Nursing Homes.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Elnora is survived by her husband, Dennis of Garwin; one daughter, Virginia (Mrs. Larry) Eckhart of Gladbrook; one brother, Lawrence (Frances) Kahler of Garwin; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Overton Funeral Home, Garwin, was in charge of arrangements.
