OBITUARY

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, for Lois Henderson, 89, of Traer, at the Traer United Presbyterian Church, with burial at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. She died Thursday, Sept. 8, 1994, at Sunrise Hill Care Center, where she had resided since May of 1988.

Officiating at the funeral service was the Rev. Rick Vesely. Organist was Beulah Whannel and vocalist was Jean Staker. Casket bearers were Sam Young, Robert Young, Ross DauSchmidt, Glenn DauSchmidt, Paul Pfeffer and John Pfeffer.

Lois Elizabeth Henderson was born in Traer, June 14, 1905, the daughter of William M. and Mae (Young) Henderson. The family moved to Colorado, then to Fairfax, IA, before returning to Traer, and Lois graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1923. Lois continued her education at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Ill., graduating in 1927. She earned her Master's Degree at the University of Iowa in 1938.

Lois taught school at Malvern, IA, at Bonne Terre, MO, Pocatello, Idaho, and Princeton, Ill., and she taught at Thornton Township High School at Harvey, Ill., for 27 years, retiring in 1970 to Traer.

Lois was an active member of the Traer United Presbyterian Church, where she had served as Sunday school teacher and as an elder. She belonged to Bonne Volante women's group, and the United Presbyterian Church women. Lois also belonged to Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority; Delta Kappa Gamma teachers' honorary; Chapter EC of the P.E.O.; Bonne Homme Club; American ...(clipping cut off) and was a life member of the National Education Association.

Lois was an avid traveler, and had been to many countries of the world, throughout Europe, the Middle East, Japan, Hong Kong, Napal, India and other places.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Agnes.

She is survived by several local cousins, including a first cousin, Alice DauSchmidt of Reinbeck.
