OBITUARY

John "Randy" Currrens was born on September 3, 1917, on the family farm near Traer, Iowa, the son of John R. Currens, Sr. and Nelle McCosh Wilson. He attended country school at Bakers Grove and graduated from Traer High School in the class of 1935. For two winter terms, Randy attended Iowa State College in their farm operation program.

On September 8, 1951, Randy married M. Eleanor Middleton in Des Moines, Iowa. They made their home farming southwest of Traer for 42 years before moving to Ridgeway Place in Waterloo on October 9, 1993.

Randy also owned and operated Currens Real Estate in the mid 1960's. After Eleanor's death on January 13, 2001, Randy continued to live at Ridgeway Place. He had been a resident at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo where his death came on early Wednesday morning, July 21, 2004 at the age of 86 years.

Randy was involved in many activities and organizations throughout his life. He held many leadership positions in the United Presbyterian Church in Traer, was a member of the Hesperia #340 Masonic Lodge & Order of Eastern Star and the El Kahir Shrine & Scottish Rite. He was a Perry Township Trustee, served on the Buckingham Cemetery Board, Board of Adjustment and the Tama County Realty Board. Randy was also instrumental in helping to establish rural mail delivery in the Traer area.

He also enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife M. Eleanor, a daughter Barbara Anne and a sister Jean Lyon. Randy is survived by a son James (Kari) Currens of Traer, a daughter Nancy (Pat) Pinkston of Milan, IL and 4 grandchildren; Michelle, Steven and Sarah Pinkston and Ryan Currens.
