OBITUARY

Funeral services for Gertrude Christiansen, 85, of Dysart and Traer, were held Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999 at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Traer, with the Rev. Eric Spake officiating. Burial was at Dysart Cemetery. She died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 at Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center in Traer, where she had lived since April 1998.

Music for the funeral service was provided by Amy Lidgett, organist, and Shane and Angie Franklin, volaclists. Casket bearers were Rick Franklin, Rod Franklin, Travis Hansen, Jerry Junge, Jody Junge, Lon Karr, Rob Karr and Todd Karr. Tending to the floral tributes were Jeff and Becky Junge and Tim and Darsi Huddleson.

Gertrude Christiansen was born April 1, 1914 on a homestead at Newhall, Iowa, the daughter of Conrad and Matilda (Paulsen) Werning. Gertrude received her education in country school near Newhall.

In May of 1934, Gertrude was married to Leland "Dutch" Hansen. They were later divorced. Gertrude worked as a certified nurses aid at the Traer Nursing Home and at Sunnycrest Care Center in Dysart for 30 years, retiring in 1986. On July 3, 1972, she was united in marriage to Harry Christiansen at Jackson, Minn., and the couple lived in Dysart. Harry died March 8, 1998.

In her free moments, Gertrude enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, crafts, bingo and her dog, Missy.

She was preceded in death by here parents; her husband, Harry; one sister, Evelyn Swanson and a brother, Willis Werning.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Bill and Donna Hansen of Vinton; three daughters, Sharon and Robert Karr and Donna Franklin, all of Traer, and Ardith and Harold Junge of Keystone; one sister, Lucille Albertsen of La Porte City; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Overton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
