Funeral services for Karen A. Kruse, 32, of Emmetsburg, will be held Thursday, Nov., 12, 1992, at 10 am, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Traer with burial at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. A scripture service will be held Wednesday evening at 8 pm at Overton Funeral Home, Traer. Karen died of injuries received in an automobile accident near Clarion, Iowa, Nov. 9.
Officiating the Funeral Mass will be Father Thomas Purtell of Traer and Father Ernest Engler, pastor of St. Patrick's Church, Tama. Catherine McLean will serve as organist with Jean Staker as vocalist.
Casket bearers will be Kurt Ewoldt, Eric Ewoldt, Steve Ewoldt, Robert Young, Paul Kruse, Clifford Kruse, Gene Kruse and Jon Kruse. Floral tributes will be tended to by Alan and Linda Peters and family and Mike and Valerie Irvine.
Karen A. Kruse was born Sept. 5, 1960, in Wheaton, Ill., the daughter of Edmund Richard and Nancy Lee (Grover) Ewoldt. She received her education at Wheaton Central High School graduating with the class of 1978. Karen continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa and was the featured baton twirler with the UNI marching band. Since her graduation Karen has been teaching baton twirling to young people all over the state of Iowa and was in charge of the state's baton twirling contest.
In 1982 Karen began teaching at the Garwin Community School and also taught in Parkersburg, Iowa, before taking a position with Hoffman-LaRoche Company as a district manager of pharmaceutical products.
On Aug. 31, 1991, she was married to Jim Kruse in the chapel at Living History Farms near Des Moines. Since their marriage Karen and Jim have made their home in Emmetsburg. She was a member of Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg.
She was a member and past president of Kappa Delta Pi, Psi Chapter, Honor Society in Education at UNI.
She is survived by her husband, Jim of Emmetsburg; three step-children, Matthew, Lucas and Megan Kruse, all at home; her parents, Edmund and Nancy Ewoldt of Wheaton, Ill; three brothers, Kurt Ewoldt of West Chicagoi, Ill., and Steve Ewoldt of Warrenville, Ill.
Arrangements were handled by Overton Family Funeral Homes.
