OBITUARY
DARRELL HEAFORD
The Traer community was shocked this weekend with the sudden death of banker Darrell Charles Heaford, 54, of Traer. Heaford died Saturday, Oct. 19, [1996] of an apparent heart attach at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Heaford was serving as Vice President of Homeland Bank, working in both the Traer and Dysart offices. He had come to Traer in 1975 to work at First Community Bank, which eventually became part of the Homeland Bank.

Heaford was the treasurer of the Sunrise Hill Care Center Board of Directors. He was a member of Kubik-Finch Post, American Legion of Traer, and he was serving as treasurer of the North Tama Booster Club.

He had also served on the Board of Directors of the Traer Chamber of Commerce, and had served for many years as treasurer of the North Tama Community School. He had also served on the Traer Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Darrell was an avid sportsman, enjoying participating in most sports, including golf, basketball, football and baseball. He enjoyed walking and was a fan of Iowa Hawkeye basketball.

Funeral services for Darrell Heaford were held Wednesday morning, Oct. 23, 1996 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dysart, with the Rev. Edward Bastedo officiating. Burial was at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer.

Music was provided by Carol Lorenzen. Casket bearers were Mike Butler, Rich Engel, Doug Abrams, Geoff Conrad, Todd DeVries and Gene Rund. Honorary casket bearers were David Abrams, Larry lorenzen, Dennis Reimer and Brett Heaford. Tending to the floral tributes were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Sheda and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Wilson.

Darrell Charles Heaford was born March 26, 1942 at Rockwell, IA, the son of Oscar Carl and Johanna (Koenen) Heaford. He attended school at Rockwell and graduated from Rockwell-Swaledale High School.

He was drafted into the US Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. After his discharge he worked for a finance company in Mason City and the Omaha area. On June 8, 1970, Darrell was united in marriage to Susan Strunk in Cedar Falls. They made their home in Iowa City and in Sigourney before moving to Traer in 1975. They were later divorced.

Darrell was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Heaford. He is susrvived by his two sons, Christian and his wife Brooke Heaford of West Battle Lake, MN, and Andrew Heaford of Storrs, CT; two daughters, Mrs. David (Amy) Carey of Cedar Rapids, and Elizabeth Heaford of Redding, CT; his mother, Johanna Heaford of Rockwell; a brother, Bill Heaford of Dysart; a sister, Mrs. Dallas (Elaine) Abrams of La Mesa, CA; a grandchild, and a special friend, Carol Welsh of Traer.

A memorial fund is being established.
