Funeral services for Frances Elizabeth EARLEY, 87, of Traer, were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at the Traer United Presbyterian Church with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer.

Frances died at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer Dec. 3, 1997.

The Rev. Rick Vesely officiated the service with Mariel Brubaker serving as organist and Ellen Kern and Jean Staker, vocalists.

Casket bearers were Mark EARLEY, Don KEITH, Robert Kern, Jon PANFIL, Jim Young and Roy Kern. Floral tributes were handled by Ruth Wood and Lucy Thierer.

Frances Elizabeth EARLY was born Aug. 1, 1910, to James B. and Mary (CAPPELL) KEITH in Traer, Ia. She graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1927. She continued her education at Coe College and achieved a degree in English in 1932.

Following her college graduation she was employed by Linn County in the welfare department.

On Jan. 18, 1934, Frances was united in marriage to Stevenson EARLEY in Chicago at the home of Steve’s uncle, the Rev. Howard JOHNSTON. The couple made their home on the STEVENSON homestead southwest of Traer where they farmed for 34 years.

Frances and Steve built and moved into a new home in Traer in 1968. Steve died that same year. Frances continued to live at their home until moving to Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, where she has resided for the past six years.

Frances was a member of the Traer United Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an Elder and was active in Bonne Volante and the Presbyterian Women’s Organization. She was also a long-time member of the Bon Homie Fine Arts Club and a member of Bona Dea Chapter of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, art and travel.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband; parents and seven brothers.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Keith and Lois EARLEY of Traer; two daughters, Jane EARLEY of Mankato, Minn., and Ann EARLEY of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren Diane (EARLEY) PANFIL of Vinton and Mark EARLEY of Eldridge; one great=grandson, Benjamin PANFIL and one sister, Mary NEIDICK of Traer.
