Joseph DEDIC

Funeral services for Joseph DEDIC, 70, 809 Fifth Street, Traer, will be held Thursday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Traer. Burial will be at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. He died Monday, Nov. 8, 1993, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, after suffering from failing health recently.

Officiating at the funeral service will be the Rev. Martha Anderson. Organist will be Judy Mason and soloist Wayne Dunlavey. Casket bearers are John Kvidera, Ross Hamilton, Earl Hoeppner, Don Wolfgram, Jake Froehlich and Frank Erhardt Jr. Tending to floral tributes will be Don and Margaret Farland and Don and Barbara Vojtech. Military rites will be furnished by Kubik Finch Post, American Legion of Traer.

Joseph DEDIC was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Traer, the son of Joseph and Marie (PAVLICEK) DEDIC. Joe was raised in Traer and received his education at Traer High School.

Joe entered the U.S. Navy in February of 1941, and served his country during World War II on the destroyers “Badger” and “Zellars.” He was honorably discharge from the Navy in February of 1947.

Joe married Lucille BRUBAKER Feb. 9, 1949, and they made their home in Traer. He was a partner in Les & Joe’s Phillips 66 station on Second Street in Traer until 1960. He was then employed at the post office, retiring from there after 18 years. He also worked at the Municipal Utilities for a time.

Joe was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church, Kubik-Finch Post of the American Legion, Hesperia Masonic Lodge #340, A.F. & A.M., all of Traer, and the Eagles Club. He was an outdoors person and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy DEDIC-FRANKEL, and a grandson, Chad William.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Kathy DEDIC of Jackson, Calif., Kenneth DEDIC of Crawfordsville, Ind., William and Marcia DEDIC of Waterloo; a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Michael SMITH of Perry; three brothers, George and Stanley, both of Traer, and Robert of St. Louis, Mo.; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation is at Overton (There may have been more. It looks as though it was cut off. I believe it was the location of the Overton Family Funeral Home.)
