Ethel CRIST

Funeral services for Ethel L CRIST, 84, of Traer, were held Friday, Jan. 19 at the United Methodist Church in Traer, with burial at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. She died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 1990 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, where she had been a patient since becoming ill in December.

Officiating at the funeral service was the Rev. Martha Anderson. Organist was Judy Mason, and honorary casket bearers were Wayne MOCHAL and Dale Monroe. Active casket bearers were Ed Lillis, Lee VALENTA, Marvin Monroe, Jeff MARTIN, Keith Ruffcorn and Tarry TAMS. Tending to the floral tributes were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Zimple, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crawford and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Staker.

Ethel L. CRIST was born Dec. 30, 1905, east of Clutier, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Anna (CALOUD) MOCHAL. She attended Perry No. 5 country school, and graduated from Traer High School with the class of 1924. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and later at Marshalltown Community College and Drake University. She taught country school at Bakers Grove, southwest of Traer, then taught second grade at Traer Elementary School for the last 18 years of her teaching career.

On May 24, 1930, Ethel married Lloyd CRIST at Waterloo, and the couple made their home on the farm south of Traer for 34 years, moving to Traer in 1969. The last 15 years, Ethel and Lloyd spent their winters in Texas.

She was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and a grandson.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd of Traer; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Maxine) VALENTA, and Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) MARTIN, both of Traer; one sister, Elsie TAMS of Dysart; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Overton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
