CLAUSSEN, Katherine Lucille (1910 - 1997)

Obituary

Katherine Lucille CLAUSSEN was born at Gladbrook, IA on June 7, 1910. She was the daughter of William and Frieda (HAGEDORN) DELFS. Katie received her education at Gladbrook Public School and she married Peter CLAUSSEN on December 10, 1930 at Waterloo, Iowa. Katie and Pete made their home farming near Gladbrook before moving to farm near Traer in 1936 where their two children were born. They later moved to farm near Garwin for many years. In 1969 they moved to their new home in Garwin where Katie continued to be active in the United Methodist Church. She also was active in the American Legion Auxiliary of which she was president for more than one term and was named member of the year in 1966. In free moments Katie enjoyed sewing, playing cards and visiting with friends. In April of 1995 Katie moved to Sunrise Terrace Independent Living, in Traer, to be near her husband Pete who is a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center. Because of failing health Katie had more recently become a resident of the care center where her death came on Friday, June 20, 1997 at the age of 87 years. Katie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lester. she is survived by her husband Peter of Sunrise Hill Care Center, one son Gerald CLAUSSEN of Garwin, one daughter Karlene (Mrs. Victor) WEST of Phoenix, AZ, three grandchildren; Jackie STURGILL, Chaun CLAUSSEN , and Stephen CLAUSSEN, one great grandchild Robyn STURGILL and one great-great grandson Jason STRUGILL.

Following the service family and friends are invited to attend the luncheon at the Garwin American Legion Hall.
