Helen Boldt was born October 9, 1912 at Dysart, Iowa; the daughter of Herman and Pauline (Christiansen) Schlopkohl. Helen attended school at Dysart and was a graduate of the Dysart High School in the Class of 1932. She continued her education at Maywood Hospital in California where she received her nursing training. She then worked in California as a midwife and did home health care until moving to Traer in 1939 where she continued in the health care field. On June 2, 1946 she was united in marriage to August Boldt in Crystal township and they made their home on a farm south of Traer. Following August’s death on June 2, 1982 she continued to reside on the farm until she entered Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer in March of this year. Helen’s death came at the care center on Friday, April 7, 1995 at the age of 82 years. She was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and served as Superintendent, and a member of the Naomi Circle, Quilting Guild, Tama County 4-H, Crystal Friendship Club, Homemakers Club and a member of the Tama County Fair Board. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband August, one son Sidney, one step son Dean, one sister Marie Winterroth, and one brother Henry. She is survived by two daughters; Monnie Boldt of San Bruno, California and Zona Huss of Red Lodge, Montana, three step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.
