OBITUARY

RUTH HURSTON

Funeral services for Ruth E. Hurston, 85 of Traer, and formerly of Lake Park, were held at the United Methodist Church in Lake Park Saturday afternoon, June 27, 1998, officiated by the Rev. Chris Ebbers. Burial followed at Silver Lake Cemetery, Lake Park, IA.

She died at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer Tuesday, June 23, 1998.

Casket bearers were Alan Himschoot, Brian Himschoot, Steven Himschoot, David Mohni, Robert Mohni and Jon Randall.

Ruth Emma Hurston was born March 16, 1913 in Lake Park, IA, a daughter of Gordon and Bertha Breffle. She graduated from the Lake Park School.

She was united in marriage to Howard Randall in 1933. They were the parents of four children. The couple worked together in business in lake Park, including the Standard Oil Co., a mink farm the Gamble store and Randall's Grocery Store.

In 1957 they purchased a resort (Randall's Resort) in Baudelle, Minn. They continued working side-by-side until Howard's death in 1960. With the help of her two sons, and a brother, Ruth continued to operate the resort.

In 1963 she married Oliver Hurston. He died in 1980.

In 1981 the resort was sold and Ruth retired to a home on the shores of Rainy River. In 1989 she entered a nursing home in Baudette. A year later she moved to Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.

Ruth was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Royal Neighbors and Women of the Moose. She will be remembered for her love of people, the piano, and the out of doors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a daughter, Nancy; a brother, Robert; a granddaughter Cynthia and two sons-in-law, Raymond and Jack.

Surviving are a daughter, Sylvia Weishapple of Hudson; two sons and their wives, Gordon and Emma Lou and Jerry and Carole; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters and two sisters-in-law.
