GASTON, Walter “Bunny” (1927 - 1997)

Walter “Bunny” GASTON, 69, Waterloo, died Friday, April 25, 1997, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Services were held Wednesday, April 30, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Traer with the Rev. Rick Vesely officiating. Interment was at the Buckingham Cemetery, Traer.

Walter was born on July 23, 1927 in Traer, and raised by his grandparents Wallace and Minnie (CONRAD) GASTON. Walter received his education in Traer and graduated form North Tama High School in the class of 1945. He then entered the service, serving for two years during WWII. After his discharge, Walter returned to Traer and was employed as a carpenter for Verle Hite before his employment at the Rath Packing Company in Waterloo. He married Jane BRADLEY in 1956 and they made their home in Traer until moving to Waterloo in 1971.

Walter was a lifetime member of the VFW. He worked for Rath Packing Company for 33 years, until his retirement in 1984.

Pallbearers were Lee GASTON, Frank Martinez, Chuck Bradley, Dan Bradley, Lynus Bradley and Roger Bradley. Judy Mason was organist for the services.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, Conrad GASTON, and one brother, Don GASTON.

Walter is survived by his wife, Jane GASTON, of Waterloo, one son, Glen GASTON, of Traer, three daughters; Imogene “Birdie” McNEAL of Waterloo, Mary Lou MILLER of Marshalltown, and Wanda GASTON of Waverly, and 7 grandchildren.
