Leota L. DEE, 86, of Grinnell died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell of cancer. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 1997, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Lon Lewis, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist church officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler. Casket bearers were Lyle Beck, Marvin Beck, Jerry DAVIS, Robert Gritsch, Eric Noll and Paul Walton. Burial was in the Brooklyn Cemetery.

Leota was born July 11, 1910, at Lincoln, Ill., to Charles and Nannie (CUYICK) THOMPSON. The family move to Brooklyn, where she graduated with the Class of 1929 from Brooklyn High School. Following her education she taught in a rural school near Grinnell.

On Dec. 4, 1931, she was married to Walter DEE in Grinnell. The couple lived at Malcom where they farmed and in 1947, they moved to Traer. She worked at the Traer Dry Cleaners and as a cook at Wayne’s Bun and Cue. In 1989, they moved to Grinnell, and she has resided at Friendship Manor since 1996.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist church. While living in Traer she was active in the United Methodist Church, the Rebekah Lodge and Handicraft.

Survivors include her husband, Walter DEE of Grinnell; one son, Raymond E. DEE of Grand Island, Neb.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, dean THOMPSON of Grinnell and Marion THOMPSON of Cedar Rapids and two sisters, Dorothy DAVIS of Grinnell and Bervol WALTON of Toledo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ralph and Cecil THOMPSON.
