CRAWFORD, Edith J. (1903 - 1995)

OBITUARY

Edith J. CRAWFORD was born November 19, 1903 in Crystal Township, near Traer, Iowa; the daughter of John Newton and Margaret (McTURK) LEWIS. Edith attended country school near Traer and graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1921. She then taught country school near Traer. On June 30, 1926 she was united in marriage to Ralph CRAWFORD at Traer. They made their home in Traer where they operated the South Side Dairy until the mid 40’s and continued to farm. In 1965 they built their retirement home on the family farm. In later years they moved to Sunrise Hill are Center in Traer where Edith continued to live following Ralph’s death on November 10, 1991. Edith’s death came at the care center on Friday, November 24, 1995 at the age of 92 years. She was an active member of the Traer United Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and was a charter member of the Bonne Volante. She was a 4-H leader fro the Traer Trusty Trooper for over 20 ears, Traer Women’s club member and also taught ceramics and leather crafting. She is survived by two sons, Donald CRAWFORD and Robert CRAWFORD, one daughter Donna (Mrs. Donald) WOLFGRAM all of Traer, one sister Erma LEWIS of Reinbeck, seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Following the committal services at the cemetery, family and friends are invited to return to the church for a time of lunch and fellowship.
