Leland V CLAUSSEN

Memorial services for Leland Victor CLAUSSEN, 72, of Des Moines, were held Monday, July 3, 2000, at the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. He died at his home Saturday, July 1, 2000, of complications of cancer.

Leland Victor CLAUSSEN was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Grant Township near Reinbeck, IA. He was the son of Victor and Elsie (PHILP) CLAUSSEN. He attended and graduated from Dinsdale High School in the Class of 1945.

He served in the United States Navy for two years and attended Iowa State University for two years.

On Feb. 19, 1950, he was united in marriage to Beverly JONES at the Traer Methodist Church. The couple farmed seven miles northwest of Traer for 30 years.

While in the Traer area he was a member of Amity Presbyterian Church, the Kubik-Finch Post #142 of the American Legion, the Traer Lions Club and was a member of the North Tama School Board of Education.

In 1986 Leland and Beverly moved from their farm to Des Moines, where they became the building managers at park Fleur Apartments through 1994. Then they moved on to become the managers at West Grand Towers in Des Moines until their recent retirement. Leland was a member of the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church.

He had a love of flowers, cooking, swing music and enjoyed the outdoors. Recently, Leland and Beverly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Akumal, Mexico, given to them by their children.

Preceding him in death was his mother in 1969; his father in 1989 and one brother, Gerald in 1956.

Leland is survived by his wife, Beverly of Des Moines; six daughters, Connie and her husband Jay JONES of Tacoma, WA, Laurie WRIGHT of Baltimore, MD, Lisa and her husband David BURNS of Ithaca, NY, Sara and her husband John MANGANO of Baltimore, MD, Leann and her husband Scott GOLDSMITH of Grimes, Julie and her husband David PHILIPP of Champaign, IL; one son, Matt CLAUSSEN of Longmont, CO; 14 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church at 3120 SW Ninth, Des Moines, IA 50315.

The Cremation Society of Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
