Peter CLAUSSEN

Funeral services for Peter CLAUSSEN, 94, of Garwin, were held Monday afternoon, Dec 21, at the United Methodist Church in Garwin officiated by the Rev. Douglas Cue. Burial was in Crystal Cemetery, rural Toledo.

He died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer where he had been a resident since May 1990.

Music for the funeral service was provided by Ila Jean Boerm, organist and Brian Hempy, vocalist.

Casket bearers were Howard Clough, Loren Emke, Leland Frahm Jr., Loren Frericks, Herman Lucht and Stanley Niedermann.

Peter O. CLAUSSEN was born Sept. 4, 1904, in Vienna Township, Marshall county, Ia., the son of Claus John and Emma (HANISCH) CLAUSSEN. He was one of eight children and grew up in Marshall County. Peter attended school at Gladbrook.

On Dec. 10, 1930 he was united in marriage to Katherine DELFS in Waterloo. The couple made their home farming near Gladbrook before moving near Traer to farm in 1936. They later moved to farm for many years near Garwin.

In 1968 they moved to make their home in Garwin, where Peter served on the Garwin School Board.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Katherine, who died June 20, 1997; two brothers, Roy and Clarence and four sisters, Lillie, Irene, Grace and Evelyn.

He is survived by one son, Gerald CLAUSSEN of Garwin; and a daughter, Mrs. Victor (Karlene) WEST of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Earl CLAUSSEN of Gladbrook; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
