CLAUSSEN, Verner August (1907 - 1992)

OBITUARY

Verner August CLAUSSEN was born near Dinsdale, Iowa, July 26, 1907, son of Peter and Emma (FLATTERICH) CLAUSSEN. Verner graduated form Dinsdale High School in the class of 1925 and then began farming. On Feb. 16, 1931, he married Ella DINSDALE on the Dinsdale family farm and they farmed near Dinsdale for the next 12 years. Verner and Ella then moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where Verner was employed by the City of Waterloo in the Parks Department where he worked until his retirement in 1973. Verner and Ella then moved to the Traer community to live and enjoy long fishing trips to Minnesota. Verner also spent his free moments gardening and woodworking. In more recent years, they made their home at Ames, Iowa, to be near family, where Ella’s death came on Oct. 7, 1985, and Verner continued to make his home at 3123 Story St. On Saturday, Feb. 15, 1992, Verner died suddenly at his home of an apparent heart attack at the age of 84 years. He was a member of Collegiate Presbyterian Church at Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ella; and three brothers, Victor, Herbert and LeRoy. Verner is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dean (Dianne) OBRECHT and Linda CLAUSSEN, both of Ames; one sister, Mrs. Hilda THEDE of Reinbeck; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
