BRANDT, Irene (1909 - 2001)

IRENE BRANDT

Funeral services for Irene BRANDT, 91, of the Vinton Lutheran Home were held Saturday, March 24, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City with the Rev. Thomas Zeleny officiating. Burial was at Westview Cemetery, La Porte City.

Mrs. BRANDT died Wednesday, March 21, 1001, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.

She was born Sept. 24, 1909 in Dubuque County, a daughter of Theodore and Carrie (HAYWOOD) WALL. She grew up in the Farley, Cascade and Manchester areas, where she attended school. While in Manchester she lived with her father and helped raise two younger sisters.

She married Arnold S BRANDT Dec. 25, 1939, at the American Lutheran Church in Manchester. In 1941 they moved to a farm north of Dysart and Irene was active with the Geneseo United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her garden; their apple orchard, and fishing.

In 1977 Irene and Arnold retired in La Porte City.

Arnold died June 4, 1983. In 1999 Irene moved to the Lutheran Home in Vinton.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; two brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Jack and Joy BRANDT, Golden, CO, Dale and Barbara BRANDT, Jackson, WI; a daughter and her husband, Helen and Dennis WIEBEN, Dysart; a step-daughter, Alice WERNING, Cedar Rapids, who was raised by Paul and Frances PALMER; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one step-great-great-grandchild.
