James A. Wilson was born April 18, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., the son of James and Margaret (Alcorn) Wilson. Jim made his home on the family farm seven miles southwest of Traer, where he attended country school and the Traer school where he graduated in the Class of 1940. He continued his education in Des Moines and graduated from the American Technical School.

Following graduation he spent a year and a half working for the Civil Service as an airplane mechanic in South Dakota, Texas, and Oklahoma.

Jim then entered the Army Air Force where he served for two years and three months before his discharge.

On June 27, 1948, he was united in marriage to Doris Keizer at the Methodist Church in Hawarden, IA. Jim and Doris made their home farming from 1948-1978 on the family farm. In 1978 Jim and Doris moved to and remodeled the former home of his parents, just north of the family farm that was the country school that Jim attended.

Jim was a former member of the Tranquility Church until its closing and he then joined the United Presbyterian Church in Traer. Jim was a 50-year member of the Traer American Legion. He had a great love for nature and knew the birds by their songs; where hidden nests were and also where the wild flowers grew.

Jim enjoyed his hobby of collecting lightning rod balls and ceramic and glass insulators. He and Doris were members of the Insulators Collectors Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Harold and one in infancy and a sister, Elizabeth.

Jim is survived by his wife, Doris; one son and his wife, Dennis and Jean Wilson of Traer; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Mike Bovy of Waterloo and Sharon and Dennis Pavelka of Des Moines; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Overton Family Funeral Home-Traer was in charge of arrangements.
