John “Jack” Erickson was born February 8, 1916 near Dysart, Iowa; the son of John A. and Helena (Reimer) Erickson Sr.

Jack grew up in the Dysart and Traer communities and graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1934. The following year he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Decorah and then moved to Los Angeles, California where he attended an automotive school. In the late 1930’s he became a partner in a automotive muffler business. On July 26, 1941 he was united in marriage to Nelle McMillan of Traer in Los Angles, where they made their home.

In 1942 he enlisted in the Navel Airforce and was stationed at Los Alamitos, California Navel Air Station, Norman, Oklahoma and in Pearl Harbor until his discharge in 1945. He returned to his business in California until 1952 when he moved back to Traer where he farmed with his father-in-law Albert McMillan. As well as farming Jack was a former Board Member of the Farm bureau and School Board Member at Dinsdale. He also was a member of the Traer American Legion and United Presbyterian Church. Jack enjoyed trout fishing, bowling, reading and spending time with his family.

His death came on Saturday, March 7, 1998 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at the age of 82 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 4 sisters. He is survived by his wife Nelle, 4 daughters; Jo (Mrs. Ray) Martens of Cedar Rapids, Diane (Mrs. John) Kostlan of Traer, Ruth (Mrs. Alan) Stoakes of Luverne, Mn., and Dorothy (Mrs. Glenn) Thorne of Bettendorf, 2 sisters; Marjorie (Mrs. Glen) Bader of La Porte City and Mabel Novak of South Amana, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Following the service family and friends are invited to attend the luncheon at the church fellowship hall..
