HILDA BOHNSTENGEL

Funeral services for Hilda L BOHNSTENGEL, 97, of Treaer were held Saturday morning, Dec. 6, 1997 at the Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer with burial in Oneida Cemetery, rural Clutier.

Hilda died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

The funeral service was officiated by Pastor Greg Cluts. Music was furnished by Jennifer Cibula, organist and Mark Keefer, vocalist.

Casket bearers were Ronald DENGLER, Curtis BOHNSTENGEL, David BOHNSTENGEL, Dennis BOHNSTENGEL, Marvin BOHNSTENGEL, Melvin BOHNSTENGEL, Arlo Cibula and Gary HACH. Floral arrangements were handled by Mr. and Mrs. Herald Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Benda.

Hilda L BOHNSTENGEL was born Jan. 28, 1900, near Clutier in Tama County, the daughter of Hans and Caroline (ASMUS) DREWS. She received her education in country school near Clutier.

On Sept. 21, 1921, she was united in marriage to Louis BOHNSTENGEL. Louis and Hilda farmed for a time with Henry Holst and then began farming on thier own in Crystal Township and also near the Dysart and Clutier areas.

In 1961 they undertook the task of raising seven grandchildren after their son, Leo, and his wife were killed in a car accident near La Porte City.

In 1962 they moved to a farm near Clutier where Hilda continued to live following her husband’s death on Aug. 14, 1972. In 1973 Hilda moved to Traer to make her home and in November 1991 she became a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one son, Leo; three brothers; three sisters; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by one son, Ervin and his wife, Mildred of Clutier; two daughters, Dorothy DENGLER and Mrs. Wilbert (Irene) HACH, both of Dysart; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
