Lucille K. DRAPER (1909 - 1989)

Lucille K. DRAPER was born south of Clutier on June 16, 1909, daughter of Dirk and Bertha (PRUETER) LORENZEN. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on October 23, 1909, and later attended a country school before attending the Geneseo School, graduating in the class of 1928. On June 10, 1931, Lucille married Fred DRAPER at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart, Iowa, and they farmed for many years in the Buckingham area. Lucille and Fred were active members of their church and were charter members of St. Luke Lutheran Church when it was started in Traer. Lucille held many offices in the church and women’s church groups and was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years. While they were still on the farm, Lucille became an employee of the U. S. Postal service and served as assistant postmaster and postmaster for 17 years. Since 1967, Lucille and Fred have made their home in Buckingham. This past summer Lucille had been in failing health and was a patient at Allen Memorial Hospital at Waterloo when her death came on Saturday, August 26, 1989, at the age of 80 years. she was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sisters. She is survived by her husband, Fred and one son Richard, both of Buckingham; two daughters Mrs. Henry (Dorothy) JACQUES of Cypress, Calif., and Margaret KENNEDY of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Elmer LORENZEN of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Gilbert LORENZEN of Buckingham; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
