Wm.Turbett Dies at Construction Site in Tama.
Services for William M. Turbett, 64, of Toledo, who died unexpectedly at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 1973, while working in Tama, were held Monday afternoon, March 12, at the Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald Thompson, pastor of Otterbein United Methodist church, officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery.
Mr. Turbett died at the Spahn & Rose Lumber company in Tama whear he was pouring footings for a new office building. He had worked there all day Thursday and was stricken with an apparent fatal heart attack at 5 p.m. He reportedly was standing, leaning on a shovel when he suffered the attack and collapsed. Working with him at the scene were his son, Kevin, and Charles Hardgrove, Turbett's employee. A Manatt's truck driver was also at the scene. The rescue squad of the Tama Fire department was called along with Dr. C. W. Maplethorpe. Efforts to revive Mr. Turbett failed, however, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
William M. Turbett was born July 19, 1908, at Toledo, the son of Melvin B. and Edith Brazeal Turbett, was reared in Toledo and was graduated from Toledo High school. He learned the masonry trade from his father and worked many years. During World WarII he worked on government construction projects in Nebraska.
He married July 25, 1948 to Darlene Weaver of Tama in the Little Brown Church at Nashua and they lived their entire married life in the Toledo area. Mr. Turbett was a self employed contractor except for five years when he worked for Marquardt Construction Co. of Waterloo. He was a member of Tama Toledo Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He is survived by his widow; two sons, Eric and Kevin, both of Toledo; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Candace) Martin, Tama, and Melissa, at home; three grandchildren ; his father and step mother, Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Turbett, Toledo, and three sisters Mrs. Adolph (Mable) Rayman of Elberon, Mrs. D.L. (Mae) Estes of Ft.Pierce, Fla., and Mrs Larry (Marie) Baldus, of Ames. He was preceded in death by he mother and a brother, Loren, In World War II.
