In Response To: Nervig Family (lisa)

It appears that Owen and Jane actually lived in Polk county in 1880, but near Slater. The marriage record for their son Amos give his mother's maiden name as Stensland. According to the 1900 census, where the family name was recorded as Newig, Owen immigrated in 1857 and Jane (Gyre) (Jori) in 1854. In the 1870 census they are in Wisconsin with the family name recorded as Nearick. You are likely to find the Norwegian farm Owen was from spelled Nervik.

The Norway list at Rootsweb.com could probably find this family in Norway for you.
