REV. ANDERSEN LAID TO REST TUESDAY

Obituary

Dr. John N. Andersen, son of Niels J. and Anne Marie Andersen, was born of Danish parentage, Oct. 12, 1871, at Blair, Nebr.

After his graduation from the Blair public schools he attended Luther college, and Luther Theological seminary. He was ordained to the ministry July 10, 1895.

He was united in marriage to Anna Matina Hovey in 1895. To this union three daughters and two sons were born. His wife passed away in 1911.

Jan. 6, 1920, he was united in marriage to Inger Margretha Marvick.

His son Walter died at the age of 12 years. His eldest daughter, Lucile, Mrs. G. C. Ringgenberg, also preceded him in death July 2, 1938.

He served pastorates as follows: Momenee, Ill, 1895-96; Omaha, Neb., 1896-99; Oakland, Cal., 1899-1902; St. Paul, Minn., 1902-04; Willmar, Minn., 1904-19; Story City, Iowa, 1919-27; Synodical Director of Elementary Christian Education, 197-33; Huxley, Iowa, 1933-39. He retired in 1939 because of illness.

Dr. Andersen was a consecrated servant in the ministry, and gave willingly of his time to various boards, serving as vice president of the Board of Elementary Christian Education, chairman of joint committee Elementary Christian Education of 3 Lutheran synods; chairman Intersynodical Board of 7 Synods, which translated the 500th anniversary edition of Luther's Small Catechism in 1929; associate author of "The Open Bible," 1918.

The degree of Doctor of Divinity was conferred upon him by Luther Theological seminary May 14, 1930.

He was called to his eternal rest Saturday, Oct. 12, 1940, at the age of 69 years. Blessed be his memory and to God's glory his years of ministry.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, two daughters, Myrtle (Mrs. Sanford Olson), Riverside, Cal.; Esther, (Mrs. Leo H. Olson), Waterloo; two grandchildren, Joan Lucile Ringgenberg of St. Louis, Mo. and John L. Olson of Waterloo, a sister Nina and brother, Walter of Blair, Neb.
