HENRY L. HENDERSON
Henry Luther Henderson, son of Oscar and Bertha Henderson, was born on the homestead of his parents two miles east of Randall, Feb. 23, 1898, and passed away at his mother's home in Story City on Nov. 7, 1949, at the age of 42 years, 8 months and 12 days.
He received holy baptism on Mar. 20, 1898, his sponsors being Lewis E. Henderson, Albert Henderson, Anna Henderson and Anna Larson. He was confirmed din the Elim church at Randall Oct. 10, 1922.
Mr. Henderson spent his childhood and youth at his parent's homestead. On Feb. 14, 1917, he was united in marriage to Clara Orthun of Roland, and to this union were born two children, both of whom died in infancy, and were buried in the Roland cemetery.
Mr. Henderson was an auto mechanic by trade, and he followed this line of work at different points in both Iowa and Minnesota until three years ago when he was taken ill with heart failure. To find release from this ailment he and his wife went to Phoenix, Ariz. where they remained two and one-half years. Not finding relief and being anxious to be with his dear ones at home, he and his wife returned to Story City a few weeks ago. He entered the local hospital a short time ago, but the last couple weeks he stayed with his mother. Everything that his dear ones could think of doing for him was done, but to no avail. His time was up, and he made a clear confession of his faith in his Saviour, and that he was ready to go. His struggle and pain were very severe but he held out to the end with great patience.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, his mother, six brothers, namely; Lewis Henderson of Litchfield, Minn., Morris Henderson of Albert Lea, Minn., Milton Henderson of Long Beach, Cal., Richard Henderson of Boone, Burton Henderson of Minneapolis and Lincoln Henderson of Belmond; four sisters, namely: Mrs. Lizzie Skeie, Mrs. Ida Thompson and Mrs. Celia Wierson, all of Story City, and Mrs. Ruby Smith of Long Beach, Cal.
Funeral services were held from the home of his sister, Mrs. John Wierson, and the Bethel church of Story City, on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 19, where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated. The church was filled with relatives and friends, and beautiful floral tributes were offered. Gifts of money were also made to missions in his memory of Ole Soneland, Theo. Hoversten, J. H. Brekken and Lloyd Okland rendered three appropriate songs.
Interment was made at the Roland cemetery, where Mr. Henderson was laid to rest beside his two children. Pall bearers were Floyd and Boyd Christenson, Roy Thompson, Herbert Milland, Otis Braland and Richard Henderson.
