FUNERAL OF OLD SETTLER
The funeral services for Ole Thorsbakken, whose death was chronicled in last week's Herald, were held in the Immanuel church Thursday afternoon, with a very large number of relatives and friends present to pay their last respects to a man long held in high esteem. Rev. Heimarck officiated, with the choir of the church leading in the singing; a vocal solo was rendered by Mrs. Ben Anderson.
The pallbearers were: Wier Erickson, Harry K. Henderson, Wier Thorson, Meyer Johnson, A. J. Henryson and H. O. Hougland. Upwards of $75 was contributed to missions in honor of the memory of the deceased.
Obituary
Ole Thorsbakken was born July 15, 1863, in Westre Tolen, Norway, the parents being Martin and Karen Thorsbakken. He had 9 brothers and 1 sister, 8 of whom have preceded him in death. He was baptized and confirmed in the Aas church in Norway.
He immigrated to Decorah, Iowa, in 1881, living there until he came to Story City in 1886. In 1891 he was married to Betsy Sydness. To this union, six children were born, Clara Mathilda dying in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Thorsbakken made their home on a farm east of Story City for 37 years. The past 11 years they have made their home in Story City.
Left to mourn his loss are his wife and children, Mabel, Mrs. Thomas Solbrack of Jewell, Selmer and Henry of Story City, Otis of Randall and Arthur of Alden.
There are 17 grandchildren, two surviving brothers, Marius of Centuria, Wis. and Eve in Norway.
He passed way May 7th, at 5 a.m., at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 22 days.
