DEATH OF PIONEER WOMAN
Mrs. Peter O. Anderson Left 54 Grandchildren and 54 Great Grandchildren
Mrs. Peter O. Anderson, whose death was briefly chronicled last week, was born at Hia, Norway, August 5, 1839, and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lewis Severtson, near Blooming Prairie, Minn., Aug. 9, 1926, at the age of 87 years, 7 days. Her maiden name was Britta Rasmusson Hia.
She was married to Peter O. Anderson in 1864 and immigrated to America in the same years coming to Morris, Ill., in the month of May. The family lived in Morris six years and then moved to Kansas, where Mr. Anderson took a homestead and remained for thirty years. He sold his Kansas farm in 1909 and moved to Roland, Iowa, living on a farm south of that place for seven years. In 1908 he sold that farm and moved to Story City, where he resided until his death.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were blessed with eleven children. Four of these preceded the father to the better land, and 3 sons and 4 daughters remain to mourn her death. The husband died in February of this year. The surviving children are: Mrs. A. A. Jacobson of Butterfield, Minn., Andrew Anderson of Bricelyn, Minn., Mrs. Nels Kittelson of Milford, Ia., Ole Anderson of Story City, Mrs. Lewis Severtson of Blooming Prairie, Minn., Mrs. Annie Johnson of Bird City, Kan., and Rasmus Anderson of Clifton, Kan.
Funeral services were held in the Immanuel church in Story City, Friday, Aug. 13, Rev. Heimarck officiating. The pall bearers were: A. A. Jacobson, Lewis Severtson, Nels Kittelson, Rasmus Anderson, Andrew Anderson and Ole Anderson. Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery.
All the children were here for the funeral; also a sister, Mrs. Fitch of Nevada.
Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Torjusson and Tom Thompson of Ellsworth; Mrs. Osmund Rasmusson and son of Randall, Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Rasmusson and Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Edmonson of Marshalltown and John Danielson of Roland.
Mrs. Anderson leaves besides her seven children, 54 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Throughout her long life she displayed the sterling character of the pioneer, women, faithful, affectionate and hard working, and her memory will be a benediction to her children and her children's children.
