J. K. SANDSGAARD [SIC] REACHED HIGH AGE
Respected Citizen Was Over 84 Years Old and Had Lived Here for 58 Years
John K. Johnson Sansgaard whose parents were Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Johnson Sansgaard, was born at Nerstrand, Norway, July 24, 1848, and died at Story City, Iowa, Tuesday Dec. 6, 1932. He was 84 years old last July.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Nerstrand, where he grew to manhood. May 1, 1870, at the age of 22 years, he came to America. His first stopping place was Rushford, Minn., at which place he lived a year and a half. He then moved to New Sharon, Iowa, and in 1874 he came to Hamilton county, where he bought a farm in Clear Lake township and there resided until 15 years ago when he retired and moved to Story City.
On April 21, 1877, he was united in marriage to Janette Hustoft. To this union eleven children were born, of whom two died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Maynard West of Jewell, died in 1930. The children who survive are John of Elmore, Minn.; Mrs. Jacob Hoversten, Selmer and James of Story City; Mrs. Joe West, Mrs. O. C. Lund, Sverdrup and Joseph of Jewell. He also leaves 27 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also two brothers Peter of Grantsburg, Wis., and Johannes of Two Harbors, Mich.
Mr. Sansgaard was converted at the age of 22 years. He thus enjoyed the great privilege of living the most part of his life in communion with his Lord, who kept him in His grace to the end. He has now received his reward, the crown of life promised to all who are faithful to the end. As a Christian he was naturally interested in his Master's church. When he lived on his homestead he belonged to the Clear Lake township Lutheran church, and when he moved to Story City he united with the Bethel Lutheran church.
Mr. Sansgaard was a kind husband and father, and his departure will greatly sadden the hearts of his dear ones. But they have the sure hope that what is their loss is his gain.
Mr. Sansgaard was buried from Bethel church, Story City, Friday, Dec. 9th. The large audience present testified to the high esteem in which he was held. Rev. G. O. Paulsrud, assisted by Rev. H. Oppedal, officiated. Ted and Truman Quam sang two songs. The pall bearers were: Ole Brekke, Osmond Westre, John Sunnoe, Tom Quam, Lars Stenson, Marshall Pearson.
