MRS. GUSTAV AMLUND PASSED AWAY
Word was received here last week that Mrs. Gustav Amlund had passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Andrew Matson, at Valley City, N. D., following a stroke.
Mrs. Amlund is well known by local people as she lived the major portion of her life here.
She was born in Biri, Norway, Dec. 31, 1849. Her parents were Tollef and Karen Kold, but as a young child she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. A. Hanson, who moved to Gjovik, where she was confirmed.
At the age of 21 she was married to Gustav Amlund of the same place. They moved to America shortly after and the first summer made their home in Stoughton, Wis., and then moved to Story City, Ia. There they became members of St. Petri congregation. Here they lived for more than 40 years, both being prominent in the social and religious life of the community. They moved from Story City to Canton, S. D. The last few years they have been visiting with their children in various parts of the Northwest.
She leaves the following children to mourn her loss: Martha (Mrs. Joseph Hovey) of Bruce, S. D.; Karen (Mrs. L. M. Larson) of Laporte, Minn.; Anne (Mrs. E. Trockstad) of New Dayton, Alta, Canada; Even of Fargo, N. D.; Sophie (Mrs. S. I. Anderson) of Mankato, Minn.; Arthur of Minneapolis, Minn., and Andrene (Mrs. A. Matson) of Valley City, N. D. A daughter Therese, has passed away.
Mrs. Amlund grew up in a Christian home, and was fully a fourth commandment daughter, as also her own children. There was without exception a dear, deeply loving relation between mother and children.
She was buried Sunday from First Lutheran church at Valley City, Rev. Framstad conducting. Never was a wife, mother and grandmother laid to rest with greater sympathy and love.
