Town Clerk for 35 Years

Death Came to Andrew Williamson After Long and Faithful Service

Andrew Williamson, for 35 years clerk of the town of Story City, answered the last summons on Saturday of last week.

Death was sudden, in a manner of speaking, as Mr. Williamson had been at the town hall just a few days before, but his friends had noticed a manifest failing of his health for more than a year. He had been taking radium treatment for carcinoma of one side of his face, which undoubtedly had been very painful, but he bore the affliction with great fortitude and patience.

Mr. Williamson had been clerk of the town for 35 years. Most of the time he merely attended to the routine matters that came before the city council, but of later years he had charge of the bookkeeping for the light and water departments as well. It was fitting, therefore, that the mayor and councilmen should, as pall bearers, bear him to his last resting place.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home and in the St. Petri church, Rev. Scarvie officiating and taking as text for his sermon the words of Isaiah: "This also cometh from the Lord, who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in working." The choir rendered "Lead Kindly Light" in closing.

Besides the widow, Mr. Williamson leaves a son, Clarence, who with his wife and daughter were here from Chicago for the funeral. A daughter, Grace, had preceded him to the better land. His sister, Mrs. Thomas Johnson, also survives him.

Andrew Williamson was born in Jondall, Norway, April 5, 1860, his parents being Wiglek Larson and Carrie Askelsdatter. He came to America in 1880. For many years he was a clerk and bookkeeper in the Holm hardware store. In his younger days he gave much of his spare time to the cultivation of a fine talent for music, and he was a good violin player.

Story City people regretfully bid farewell to a faithful public servant and will long hold him in remembrance.
