FUNERAL OF LIZZIE SMITH HELD MONDAY

She Had Lived in This Community Nearly 60 Years--Death Came April 17

The funeral of Miss Elizabeth Smith was held in the Grace church Monday afternoon, Rev. C. L. Fuller officiating. Death had come to here Thursday evening, April 17, following an attack of pneumonia.

A large concourse of old time friends gathers to pay their last respects to her memory. The pall bearers were Messrs. Frank Heers, George Baldus, John N. Johnson, Matt Oswald, Charles Tressler and Henry M. Springman. Mrs. James sang several solos, accompanied by Miss Fuller.

Rev. Fuller preached from the text in II Cor. 5:1, "For we know if our earthly home of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.' The pastor read the following obituary before the sermon:

Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Smith was born on November 10, 1855, in Union county, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of James T. Smith and his wife Susana. With her parents she moved to Story City in the fall of 1873 where she resided until her death.

In youth she united with the Evangelical church at the Center appointment, and later was transferred to the Grace church when the work was consolidated at Story City. The records do not make certain under whose ministry she united with the church but her name is found upon of records as far back as 1886.

She departed this life on April 17, 1930, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 7 days. As she neared the end she realized it was near and whispered, "I am going home.'

She will be greatly missed in the home where she had acted as housekeeper and almost as mother to the rest of the family. She leaves to mourn her loss four brothers and four sisters. They are Jane, Perry, Mary, Charles, Gertrude, James and Oscar, all of Story City, and Mrs. Cora Cassady of Elk Hunt, S. D. Also other friends and relatives.
