BRIEF ACCOUNT OF DEATH OF MRS. ALLEN
Her Death Was Due To Heart Failure After Short Attack With La Grippe.
From a letter written by Doctor C. W. Allen and daughter, Mary, to Mr. E. L. Erickson, we are able to glean a few facts about Mrs. Allen, who died at her home in Los Angeles, California, January 25th, 1905.
It was supposed by many that Mrs. Allen was a victim of the disease consumption, though Doctor Allen writes that since their residence in California Mrs. Allen was examined by the best of physicians, no trace of the disease was found. She was taken sick with la grippe a short time before Christmas and gradually grew weaker until the end came; the real cause of her death was heart failure or complete exhaustion.
The Allen family resided in Story City seventeen years and during that time were of our most highly respected people. Mrs. Allen though not always enjoyed the best of health was prominent in social and religious circles where she was greatly missed when the family moved to their western home four years ago. She was a woman possessing a true Christian character, a most kind and loving manner, of unusual intellectual attainments.
She was married to Doctor C. W. Allen [Charles Wellington Allen] about twenty-two years ago; the husband and three children, Carlton, Mary and Gladys are left to mourn the loss of a good wife and mother. The remains were laid to rest in a Los Angeles cemetery[, Angelus Rosedale Cemetery].
