OBITUARY.
Mrs. A. M. Merkel was born in Shelland, Denmark, September 4th, 1837, living with her parents until her twenty year, when she was joined in marriage to Carl C. Merkel of the same place, March 25th, 1857. In 1867 she, with her husband and three children immigrated to this country where they soon after settled on a farm. Mrs. Merkel was the mother on ten children--five of which are left to mourn their beloved mother, the father having preceded her to the grave seven years ago. She lived a quiet, peaceful life, not subject to many changes, her health was in general good until a year and three months ago, when a sudden collapse of the vital organs occurred, she was confined to her bed the last four days of her life. She expired January 28th at 12 o'clock p. m.
Mrs. Merkel was a loving mother, kind and helpful neighbor, her loss to the home and community will be keenly felt.
The funeral service were held at the home Tuesday, o. B. Peterson conducting the service. The body was laid to rest in the Center cemetery.
