RESPECTED CITIZEN AND PIONEER DIES

Jacob Jorgenson, Passes Away At His Home At Ripe Age of Eighty-Six Years.

Jacob Jorgenson was born Ap[ril 29,] 1819 in Korshaven, Norway an[d died] at Story City March 23, 1905, [age 85] years, 10 months and 14 days.

At the age of twelve years his [mother] dying, Mr. Jorgenson went to sea[--] and for twenty-two years he follo[wed] the life of a sailor. In 154, he cam[e to] this country going to the Californ[ia] gold fields where he lived about te[n] years. He then went to Chicago, but in the spring of 1864 came to Story Cit[y] and purchased the farm south of town where he lived until four years ag[o] when the family move to Story Ci[ty.]

November 8, 1865, he was marri[ed to] Margaret B. Larson and to this [union] nine children were born, three [boys] and six girls.

On account of his advanced age t[he] past few years he has been confined [to] his home a greater part of the time, but during the days of activity he was interested in all matters which might add to the welfare of the community. He was a kind father, a devoted husband and a good and obliging neighbor.

The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community.

The funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock and at the St. Petri church at two, Thursday. The services were conducted by Rev. Vangsness. The remains were interred in the Story City cemetery.
