MRS. R. L. HEGLAND FUNERAL YESTERDAY

Mrs. R. L. Hegland died last Monday morning at the home of her sister Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Rod, where she had been staying since coming here from her home at Sharon, N.D., about four months ago. She has been suffering from cancer for the past year and had been taking treatments at a hospital at Fargo, N.D., the first part of the summer, in the hope of checking the disease, but which proved unavailing.

Emily Elizabeth Birkeland was born on the Birkeland homestead three miles north of Roland on October 22, 1883, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ingvald O. Birkeland. Her father died 21 years ago and her mother, Mrs. H. J. Amenson lives on the old homestead north of town. She was married on April 2, 1908, to Mr. R. L. Hegland, who with their two adopted children, Lester and Lillian, remain to mourn her loss. They lived in Roland until 1907, when they moved to Sharon, N.D., on a farm where they have since resided. She was taken sick about a year ago and was visited by her brother and sisters, and July first she was brought to Roland and has been under the care of her sister, Mrs. M. O. Rod most of the time since. She suffered considerably at times, but never complained, being always cheerful and smiling to the very last, she was very happy to leave this earth and join her Savior, whom she had learned to love from early early girlhood. Surrounded by her loved ones, she passed away on Monday morning, October 27th.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, R. L. Hegland, her two adopted children, Lester and Lillian, her mother, Mrs. H . J. Amensen, five sisters and four brothers, Mrs. M. O. Rod, Mrs. T. C. Jacobson, Mrs. C. J. Jacobson, Mrs. M. J. Rod, S. O. Birkeland, Elmer, Irvin, and Milford Amenson, all of this place, and Mrs. Wm. Hoff of Makoti, N.D., besides a large number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted yesterday from the M. O. Rod residence at 1:30 o'clock, and from Bergen Lutheran church at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. M. O. Sumstad preaching the funeral sermon. Interment took place in the Roland cemetery .
