STORY CITY MAN DROWNS
Peter Nygaard, of Sioux City, was drowned in the Missouri river on Sunday, June 15th. It seems that Mr. Nygaard and his wife and friend were out boating, when a launch came to close to their boat and caused it to rock so much that it turned over. The friend was a good swimmer and succeeded in saving his own life and that of Mrs. Nygaard, but was unable to render any help to Mr. Nygaard. The remains were recovered almost immediately.
Mr. Nygaard was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Nygaard, of Story City, and was a veteran of the late world war. The body was taken to Story City where funeral services were held last Friday afternoon. The deceased leaves his wife, his aged parents, and a sister to mourn his premature death.
[Poster note: The grave marker in Fairview Cemetery, Story City, reads "Peter S. NYGAARD Iowa 20 M.G. Battn. 7 Div. WWI died Jun 15 1924"\
