Iver Larson (Slettevig)

Iver Larson (Slettevig) was born in Vike, Sondhordland, Norway, Dec. 19, 1841, and died at his daughter's home, 5 miles southeast of Story City, Jan. 11, 1923, at the age of 82 years. He came to America from Norway in 1859. After some five years stay here, he went west and settled on a farm four miles northeast of Story City. At this farm he lived for many years until he moved Story City 15 years ago. As a young man he stayed with his parents whom h cared for as a faithful son.

In 1873 he was united in marriage to Chestena Thompson. In this happy union were born seven children. Of these two are dead, namely, Martha Larson and Anna Danielson. Those who live to mourn his death are, Sven Larson, Mrs. Helen Wierson, Mrs. Josie Henderson and Mrs. Julia Christianson, all of Story City, and Mrs. Carrie Cooper of Des Moines.

About eleven months ago he lost his wife. This made his last days sad and lonesome, but he found a good home and good care at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. Henderson. No labor was spared to make his last days bright and cheerful, and he was very much thankful for that.

While living on the farm he was a member of Salems Church, Roland. In Story City he was a faithful member of Bethel church.

Besides the children mentioned above he also leaves 21 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and a brother L. Larson of Alberta, Can.

He was buried from the Bethel church, Story City, January 15. A great many friends were present to pay their last tribute to their old honored friend and neighbor. There were many from a distance present, among these were Louis Chally and wife from Ottawa, Ill. Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated, assisted by Mr. Chally who spoke touchingly of his uncle's life and admonished the people to seek the Lord.

Mr. Larson was laid to rest in the Roland cemetery.
