OBITUARIES
JOSEPH LEININGER
Joseph Leininger passed away at his home in Genesco, Ill., Monday, February 12, 1923, aged 76 years, 5 months and 12 days. Mr. Leininger came to Illinois as a young lad of nine years. Here he grew to young manhood and in 1883 went to Story City, Iowa where he prospered at his occupation of farming and was able in 1912 to retire. He then returned to Genesco, where he has since resided. His was a life of upright living, industry, and all of this coupled with kindliness and a deep devotion to his faith, that of the Catholic church. Mr. Leininger about four years ago suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. About a year ago he suffered a second stroke. Death came to him as a relief and found him prepared with the faith of a true Christian.
Joseph Leininger was born in the village of Bundendahl, in the province of Bavaria, Germany on September 12, 1847. He came with his parents to this country in 1856. In the year 1871 Mr. Leininger was married to Miss Margareta Bearisvill [should be Bereswill] in the St. Malachy's church in Geneseo. Her death occurred July 6, 1907.
To Mr. and Mrs. Leininger were born five children who survive. They are, Frances and Susan at home; Fred Leininger of Boone, Iowa; Mrs. Marcus Wilhelm of Boone, Iowa; Mrs. Tillie Tpecht of Prophetstown, Ill. There also survive thirteen grand children, and a brother, Frank Leininger, living at Myrtle, Minnesota.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Father E. H. Barnes at St. Malachy's church. The remains were taken to Story City to be laid beside the remains of the wife in the Catholic cemetery west of town.
