Funeral Services For Jacob Floden

Held Saturday Afternoon at Bethlehem Church.

Funeral services for Jacob Floden were held Saturday afternoon from the Slater Bethlehem church. There were brief services at the Riis Funeral Home at 1:30. The service at the church began at 2 o'clock with the singing of a hymn, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," after which his pastor, Rev. P. E. Onstad, led in devotion and read the obituary. A vocal selection, "Have Thine Own Way," was sung by a male quartet, composed of Rev. Onstad followed with his sermon after which he closed the services with a solo, "I know of a Sleep in Jesus."

There were many lovely floral tributes. Also gifts to various church activities in memory of Mr. Floden. The flowers were arranged by Miss Edna Houge and Mrs. Freebert Riis. Pallbearers were the six sons of the deceased: Sanford, James, George, Joe, Stanley and Richard.

Burial was in the family lot in the Palestine cemetery.

Obituary.

Jacob Floden, son of John and Ellen Floden, was born July 8, 1872, at Etne, Norway. He died Thursday, Feb. 2, 1946, at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames at the age of 73 years, seven months and 20 days. Immigrating to America, the family took up their residence in Huxley where they lived many years.

Mr. Floden was united in marriage to Anna Sydnes, Mar. 10, 1896. To them were born 11 children of whom three died in infancy. Surviving him are six sons and two daughters.

Jacob Floden was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. The family had a membership in the Palestine church for some time. On locating on a farm near Kelley they transferred their membership to the Bethany Lutheran church at Kelley. Following the death of his wife he carried on for years, till his health began to fail him. In recent years he had been living with a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Tweedt, in Slater.

Mourning his passing are six boys: James, Joe, George, Sanford and Stanley of Slater and Richard of Fairbanks, Ia.; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Speicher of Fairmont, Minn., and Mrs. Carroll Tweedt of Slater; two brothers, John of Des Moines and Tom of Hampton, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Thor Mason of Huxley and Mrs. Jenney Marsh of Los Angeles, Calif. Fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends mourn his passing.
