KRISTI SKOLA LAID TO REST
Woman From Pioneer Days Laid To Rest in the Bethlehem Cemetery--Many Present.
A large crowd attended the funeral services in memory of Mrs. Kristi Skola at the Lincoln church last Thursday afternoon, the 17th. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. Duea. Special music was furnished by a ladies' quartet, who rendered "Fade, Fade Each Earthly Joy" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." Mrs. Archie Peterson sang a solo, "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Se." There were many floral tributes. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Kristi Skola was born at Kvinherad, Norway, November 15, 1836. Her marriage to Torris Skola took place in Norway. They immigrated to America and settled near Morris, Illinois, but soon afterwards moved to Iowa and took up their residence on what was then the wild prairie, now the Anna Mickelson place east of Slater. Mr. Skola died June 17, 1968 [sic], leaving Mrs. Skola with three small children to provide for. Those were real pioneer days, with all the hardships that pioneer life and the after-the-war period brought. Their home was a sod dugout and their nearest neighbors were a mile and a half away. Of the three children, Bertha, now Mrs. Baker of Ames, and Peder, now of Viborg, South Dakota, survive her. In 1870 she remarried, her second husband being Tollef Skola. To this union were born five children. Of these, three are now living. They are Henry of Slater, Tom of east of town and Rachel, now Mrs. Lew Anfinson, at whose home she passed away. Her husband died in 1891. She had since been making her home with Tom and Mr. and Mrs. Anfinson. She had a stroke of paralysis several years ago and from that date her health gradually failed. On Monday, the 7th, she had another stroke and fell to the floor in a way to fracture her hip. From then on it became apparent that she could no survive long and death followed on the 15th.
Mrs. Skola was an earnest Christian, devoted to her home and children, and dearly beloved by all that knew her.
