Services Here for Albert Jorgenson
Final rites were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon for Albert Jorgenson of Des Moines, former Slater resident and business man, who passed away Monday in Des Moines at the Iowa Lutheran hospital. Mr. Jorgenson was engaged in the harness and implement business here for a number of years. His associate was the late O. M. Brown and the firm name was Brown & Jorgenson.
A short prayer service was held in the Riis Funeral home at 1:30, followed by services at the Bethlehem church at 2 o'clock. Rev. P. E. Onstad was in charge and shoe as his sermon theme, "Is Your Name Written in Heaven?" He also sang "O, Take My Hand, Dear Father." Nilus Ihle sang "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name."
The floral tributes were cared for by Miss Marie Folgero and Miss Carrie Lande. There were a number of gifts to missions in his memory.
Pallbearers were Kermit Granseth, Roy Cole, Truman Brown, G. Erickson, H. Erickson and B. Davidson.
Burial was in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Obituary.
Albert Olavus Jorgenson was born Apr. 3, 1878 on the Jorgenson homestead, one mile south of Story City, and died in Des Moines on Feb. 25 of a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been in comparatively good health until the last few weeks.
His parents, Jacob and Margaretha Jorgenson, were devoutly religious people of the Lutheran faith and Albert was baptized by their pastor, Rev. Nils Amlund. Together with the other children in the Jorgenson family, Albert received Christian instruction throughout the years of childhood and yearly youth until confirmed. General education was received in the schools of the Story City community.
He was united in marriage to Anna Brown of Slater, where they made their home until 1920, when they moved to Des Moines.
Two children were born to this union, both of whom survive. Mrs. Joyce Wellock of Twenty-nine Palms, Calif., and Milo of Des Moines. Other survivors include two sisters, Anna Jorgenson of Des Moines and Mrs. Helen Olson of Kenyon, Minn., and one grandchild, James Jorgenson.
His wife, Anna, preceded him in death in November 1938.
While living in Slater Mr. and Mrs. Jorgenson were members of the Bethlehem Lutheran church.
