Mrs. H. E. Summers

Margaret Thornburg was born in Knoxville Tennessee, April 1, 1868 and spent most of her girlhood in that city. Her father Judge Thornburg was a union soldier in the civil war and later was attorney general of Tennessee. He also was a representative in congress from east Tennessee. Miss Thornburg attended schools at Knoxville and at New York. She was married to Prof. Summers while he was holding a position in the University of Tennessee. They afterward moved to Champaign, Illinois and from there they came to Ames where they have since resided. Mrs. Summers died Thursday evening after a brief illness and came as a shock to h er friends as well as to the community. Mrs. Summers was a woman of artistic temperament and was unusually devoted to her children. The funeral service was conducted from the family residence on the college campus by President Storms of the college. The remains were interred in the college cemetery.
