“VALORA JEAN TOMLINSON Aug. 3, 1926, to Oct. 17, 2000. Valora Jean (Hoel) Tomlinson, 74, of Des Moines, died of heart failure on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at her home in Des Moines. She was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Nevada to William Clarence and Josephine L. (Taylor) Hoel. She married Melvin E. Tomlinson on July 1, 1956, at the EUB Church in Nevada. She was employed at Donnelley Marketing for 15 years. She moved to Des Moines in 1961 from Nevada. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada and enjoyed crocheting and making crafts. Survivors include her husband, Melvin, of Des Moines; three sisters, Wilma L. Geisler of Minneapolis, Minn., Donna Darlene Sandmeier of McCallsburg and Patricia J. Olson of Webster City; and a brother, Rex L. Hoel of Nevada. Her parents and a brother, Billy Hoel Jr. in March of 1971, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 21, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial followed at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada. Valora Jean Tomlinson was born on Aug. 3, 1926, in Nevada, the daughter of William Clarence and Josephine L. (Taylor) Hoel. She married Melvin E. Tomlinson on July 1, 1956, in Nevada. She was employed at Donnelley Marketing for 15 years. She moved to Des Moines in 1961. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. She is survived by her husband of Des Moines; three sisters, Wilma L. Geisler of Minneapolis, Donna Darlene Sandmeier of McCallsburg and Patricia J. Olson of Webster City; and one brother, Rex L. Hoel of Nevada. She was preceded in death by one brother. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. A memorial fund has been established at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.”
